VIEDA Economic Development Commission to Continue Community Education Initiative for USVI Students at St. Croix Central High School

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – April 14, 2016 - The Virgin Islands Economic Development Commission (VIEDC), a subsidiary entity of the Virgin Islands Economic Development Authority (VIEDA), will continue to host its 2016 Community Education Initiative for high school students in the U.S. Virgin Islands with its next presentation on St. Croix. This presentation will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 9:35AM at the St. Croix Central High School at RFD #1 927, Kingshill, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

This presentation on topics related to economic development will be held for students enrolled in the business and/or vocational programs. Other interested students at the St. Croix Central High School are also invited to attend. The purpose of this initiative is to educate the Territory's youth about economic development and the VIEDA's purpose and offerings. The goal of this initiative is to also help foster the entrepreneurial spirit within young people in the Territory, and encourage career choices within the USVI. The VIEDA continues to recognize that this type of activity is an integral part of encouraging economic growth in the USVI.

Presentation topics will include the purpose of the VIEDA; how the programs and services at the VIEDA impact the quality of life and add value to the Territory; and the opportunities for future employment and entrepreneurship in the U.S. Virgin Islands, educational assistance, scholarships, and internships.

Representatives from the VIEDC, Economic Development Bank (EDB) and the Enterprise Zone Commission (EZC) will deliver presentations about their respective programs and services. VIEDC promotes its tax incentive and benefits program to companies in various industries that desire to do business in the Territory. The EDB promotes ownership and expansion of small and medium size businesses among Virgin Islands residents. The EZC works with residents and business owners to revitalize blighted and distressed communities that were once socially and economically vibrant.
