RECREATION

First-Class Island Recreation

Recognized for its natural beauty and year-round pleasant climate, the U.S. Virgin Islands offers unmatched recreational opportunities including scenic hiking, boating, snorkeling, sailing and fishing. The Territory is also home to first-rate golf courses, the Paradise Jam Basketball Tournament and some of the most popular carnivals in the world.

Beaches

The U.S. Virgin Islands is home to some of the world’s most breathtaking beaches. From the pebble-free sand and calm waters of Magens Bay Beach in St. Thomas, to the coral reefs and underwater snorkeling trails of Trunk Bay in St. John, beaches in the U.S. Virgin Islands have something to offer everyone.

Golf & Basketball

The U.S. Virgin Islands is a world-class golf destination. From the scenic par-70 Buccaneer Golf Club designed by PGA professional Bob Joyce on the grounds of an old sugar plantation, to the par-72 Carambola Golf Course with a four-star rating from Golf Digest and a Gold Medal from GOLF Magazine, the Territory is home to some of the world’s most beautiful golf courses.

The U.S. Virgin Islands is also home to the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam, a preseason college basketball tournament that offers men’s and women’s college basketball teams a chance for early season competition in a gorgeous island setting. Every November, people from all over the world flock to the 4,000-seat UVI Sports and Fitness Center to watch the teams compete before many of them advance to the NCAA championship. Participating colleges over the years have included Duke, Rutgers, Notre Dame and Georgetown.

Boating, Sailing & Fishing

With its perpetual summer weather and sparkling waters, the U.S. Virgin Islands is known for its spectacular boating, sailing and fishing.

The fishing waters in the U.S. Virgin Islands are some of the finest in the world for tuna, marlin, sailfish, kingfish and wahoo. Because the surrounding waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea are home to world and tournament record catches, the caliber of captains and charter boats is also world class.

Boating and sailing in the U.S. Virgin Islands is an excellent way to explore the area; with plenty of islands and attractions to visit, there is always something new to see, like the Buck Island Reef National Monument, an underwater national park known as one of the finest marine gardens in the Caribbean sea.
