VIEDA to co-sponsor 2022 Women’s Empowerment Conference, host entrepreneurship event for women, teen girls

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – March 28, 2022 -- The Virgin Islands Economic Development Authority (VIEDA) is co-sponsoring the in-person 2022 Women’s Empowerment Conference hosted by Women Striving For Success, Inc. on Tuesday, March 29, 2022  at The Ritz-Carlton hotel on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.  

The VIEDA is also inviting women in the business community to participate in a follow-up Women Small Business workshop for 20 women entrepreneurs to participate in a four-hour workshop on Wednesday, March 3o, 2022 at the VI Small Business Development Center (VI SBDC) Training Facility at 72 Lindberg Bay on St Thomas, USVI, upstairs of the former West Bay Supermarket. This workshop is a spin-off event from the Women’s Empowerment Conference. 

For the workshop, The VIEDA is hosting a morning session from 8AM-12PM and an afternoon session from 1PM-5PM for individuals to learn about the programs and services offered for small businesses through the VIEDA’s Enterprise Zone Commission, Economic Development Bank, and the Economic Development Commission.

The workshop’s main speaker is Ms. Cusa Holloway, VIEDA’s Business Incubator Program Manager; and the guest motivational speaker is Dr. Adrienne Booth Johnson, CEO of Infinity Global Connections, LLC.  This spin-off event is being held in collaboration with the V.I. Department of Education to include eight (8) young women who will be participating from the Career and Technical Education Program (CTE) at the Charlotte Amalie and Ivanna Eudora Kean High Schools that are on the business and entrepreneurial track. 

As part of the efforts to continue the implementation of Vision 2040 for the U.S. Virgin Islands - within the Education and Workforce section - the VIEDA and the V.I. Department of Education are working together to move the needle to motivate young people with entrepreneurial interests. In addition, the VIEDA - within the Economic Development Infrastructure section of the 116 plus initiatives within the 20-year economic development plan - is implementing more outreach and programming for early-stage and second-stage minority and women-owned businesses.
