CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – August 21, 2014 – The Virgin Islands Economic Development Authority (VIEDA), in partnership with the University of the Virgin Islands Student Affairs’ Counseling & Career Services, will host the V.I. Economic Development Commission’s Career Fair this month. This free event will be held on St. Croix at the University of the Virgin Islands’ Great Hall on Tuesday, August 26, 2014; and on St. Thomas at the University of the Virgin Islands’ Sports and Fitness Center on Thursday, August 28, 2014. The career fair will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on both islands.
At this career fair, V.I. high school and college students and the general public will be provided with opportunities to learn about various jobs that are available through the beneficiaries under the VIEDA’s Economic Development Commission Program. The VIEDA is also collaborating with the V.I. Department of Labor for this event.
“Our EDC program’s end game is about creating job opportunities for VI residents and creating a strong and sustainable revenue base for the Territory. So we are excited about our EDC beneficiaries and our supporting agency partners who have joined us in this endeavor at the University for this Job Fair,” said Percival E. Clouden, chief executive officer of the VIEDA.
This career fair will also identify the resources that are available for job seekers to learn about the current job market and employment trends; the techniques that are used to improve interviewing and networking skills, and the opportunities that exist at each EDC company for individuals to apply for scholarships and internships.
The attendees will also have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with EDC company representatives and learn about the business activities of their company.
