VIEDA to Host VISION 2040 Town Hall Meeting on November 23

St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands (November 19, 2020) — The Virgin Islands Economic Development Authority (VIEDA) will host a LIVE Virtual Town Hall meeting on Monday, November 23, 2020, from 6pm to 7:30 pm. The Virtual Town Hall meeting will broadcast simultaneously on select local radio stations, television, and various online platforms.

The purpose of the Town Hall Meeting is to provide details regarding creating a 20-year vision for each island individually – St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John – and the Territory as a whole. It will also allow an opportunity for the public to ask questions and provide input regarding Vision 2040.

“The VIEDA intends to connect with the community and outline the goals and strategy in creating the Territory’s first comprehensive 20-year economic development plan, Vision 2040,” said Wayne L. Biggs, Jr., VIEDA’s CEO.

During the 90-minute session, from 6pm to 7:30 pm, Mr. Biggs and Dan Gundersen, the head of the consulting team, Camoin 310, hired to prepare the federally-funded plan, will present a brief overview and update on the project. They will then field questions and get feedback from the public.

The Town Hall meeting will broadcast live simultaneously via the following platforms:

The public can pose questions and comments through the Zoom and Facebook Live platforms. Those listening via the radio can call-in to the meeting to ask questions or make comments at the phone line provided by WTJX: 340-718-3339.

The Monday, November 23rd Town Hall Meeting is the latest in a series of public engagements of Vision 2040 (https://www.usvi2040.com/). The project was officially launched last month, and since then has included surveys and stakeholder interviews of a broad spectrum of Virgin Islanders on all three islands and beyond. The surveys have already generated responses from more than 1,000 U.S. Virgin Islands residents and U.S. Virgin Islanders who live abroad.

Vision 2040 is an interactive, participatory process to produce a long-term economic strategy and action plan that positions the U.S. Virgin Islands as a vibrant, desirable place to live, work, and visit, and as a prosperous business location that is competitive based on its abilities to develop, retain, and attract a skilled workforce with creativity and imagination.
